Letter from the Brewmaster
Dear Florida Craft Beer Brewers and Enthusiasts:
As many of you have heard, the Brewers Association in Boulder, Colorado recently decided to abandon the American Beer Month (July) promotion in favor of American Craft Beer Week (May 15-22). Best Florida Beer feels that this decision is a step backwards for craft brewers in Florida. Unlike some of the states out West and to the North, the Florida beer market is still dominated by the biggest corporate brewers and their largely tasteless lagers. There is still a tremendous amount of work to do in educating the Florida beer drinker about the craft beer alternative that we are all passionate about. We at Best Florida Beer feel the American Beer Month promotion was an excellent tool for broadening the craft beer market. Because of this, we have decided to continue supporting American Beer Month in the Sunshine State. We strongly encourage this state’s brewers and craft beer lovers to support this effort by holding events and drinking only American craft brewed beer in July.
The BFBC is going to do its part by sponsoring posters and a website that has a calendar of events and a list of retailers that are discounting their micro brews during the month of July. Last year the poster promotion was limited to the Tampa Bay and Orlando areas. This promotion proved to be very successful, so we have decided to expand the promotion to Southeast (Miami to Palm Beach) and Southwest (Naples to Bradenton). We also will be utilizing the www.bestfloridabeer.org website this year for the ABM events and promotions, so even if there is not a poster made for your part of the state you can still use our website to promote your event.
To sign up for your event or if you are a retailer who wishes to participate by giving discounts on your American craft beers, please visit our website, download and submit our forms. We will debut the posters at the National Homebrewers Conference June 22-24 in Orlando. To make sure your event/sale is listed on our poster we need to receive your forms no later than June 12.
