National Homebrew Competition 2019
BFB will be serving again as the southern host for the 2019 National Homebrew Competition first round. More details will be coming soon, but Judging sessions are scheduled on two weekends this year - Saturday & Sunday March 30-31 and the weekend of April 5-7, 2019.
Remember, the NHC is a qualifying competition in the Florida Homebrew Circuit, and serving as a host for this event elevates and promotes the burgeoning Florida homebrew scene and puts us in the national spotlight. We are seeking volunteers for stewarding and judging (BJCP and Pro Brewers) all sessions.
· A $40 stipend will be provided to help defray travel expenses for out of town judges (BJCP Recognized or higher) who travel 50 miles or more to participate and judge a minimum of two sessions.
· A Saturday night walking brewery/pub crawl in Ybor City will be held after judging on April 6h. This event will be free to all participants and beer will be provided complimentary on the stops It will be a great chance to meet up with other judges and share beers at some of our great local breweries. More information will be sent after judge registration is complete.
· We have arranged a dozen reserved discounted hotel rooms for the main judging weekend at the very reasonable rate of $89 per night at the Clarion Inn which is about 5 miles due east of the judging site at Coppertail. The deadline for booking is Thursday March 21st. To reserve one of these room phone the hotel directly at (813) 621-5555 and identify yourself as part of the National Homebrew Competition. One of the folks on our volunteer committee also has a two bedroom home that sleeps 6 in Seminole Heights available at $82 per night available through Airbnb here. Bear in mind this is high tourist season with spring break so plan your lodging accordingly.
- Regardless of where you lodge, we’ll be offering complimentary ridesharing codes (i.e Uber/Lyft) to and from the competition site in Ybor to wherever you may stay in Tampa.
Schedule of events:
Saturday and Sunday March 30/31:
Judging sessions at 9:00am and 1:00pm each day at 7venth Sun Brewery Tampa, 6809 N Nebraska Ave Tampa, FL 33604. Lunch and complimentary 7venth Sun beers will be provided.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday April 5-7:
Judging sessions at 7:00pm Friday; 9:00am and 1:00pm Saturday and Sunday at the Coppertail Brewery 2601 E 2nd Ave Tampa, FL 33605. A light meal on Friday evening, lunch on Saturday/Sunday, and complimentary Coppertail beers will be served.
Volunteers should register and sign up at the link below which will take you to the registration system run by the AHA. Please be sure to register if you are planning to join us, as we will be using queued judging and pre-assigning all flight assignments.

The National Homebrew Competition (NHC) has become the largest homebrew competition in the world. The goal is simple: to celebrate the spirit of homebrewers. The competition gives homebrewers a chance to receive invaluable feedback on their entries and also recognizes the most outstanding, world-class homebrewed beer, mead and cider.
