Entry Rules and Details

Eligibility

The BFBC is open to all Florida Homebrewers and members of Florida Homebrew Clubs. All entries must have been brewed on a non-commercial system. Entries brewed at commercial establishments, including brew-on-premises are ineligible.

You must have a Florida address on file in the REGGIE registration system or have a declared affiliation with a Florida Homebrew Club.

Registration window will open September 18, 2023.

Categories

All BJCP beer and mead categories and associated sub-categories from the 2021 BJCP style guidelines will be accepted in this competition. Complete style guidelines can be found at the BJCP website. Entrants are responsible for placing their entry in the proper category. No entries will be re-classified. With fruit beer, herb beer, specialty beer, smoked beer and mead, be sure to list the special ingredients. All categories of beer, mead, cider and their associated sub-categories will be accepted. Every beer will be judged to the style that you designate in REGGIE. Any entry that has been disqualified for rules infractions will be judged, but will not be eligible for awards! If you would like to judge or steward during the BFBC click the entry registration link, login and you can register for days and times that work for you.  We will attempt to contact you before the day of judging to let you know what flights you will be on.  All judges and stewards must pre-register. Entry Registration

  • You must be a Florida resident or a member of a Florida Homebrew Club to enter BFBC (this must be set in you REGGIE profile)

  • 4 entries per brewer cap

  • Limit 2 entries per subcategory in accordance with Florida Homebrew Circuit rules.

  • An entry consists of 3 bottles.

  • $12 per the first 3 entries and $10 for entry 4+.

  • All entries must be entered via REGGIE.

  • Payment is only accepted via PayPal within REGGIE.

  • REGGIE will generate 3 bottle identification tags for each entry.

  • Attach the printed bottle I.D. tag to each bottle neck with a rubber band only.

  • I.D. tags attached with tape, glue or any method besides a rubber band will be disqualified.

  • Paper entries, checks, cash or other method of entry will not be accepted.

NOTE: All entries must be submitted by the deadline and to the official drop off or shipment addresses listed below. Due to the size of the competition, no late entries or alternate delivery arrangements will be accepted. Entry drop off points and collections are provided as a convenience to BFBC entrants. Although every effort is made to account for all entries, only those shipped with tracking confirmation the “ship to” address can be formally traced and accounted for by competition organizers. In the case of a Hurricane or other natural disaster Best Florida Beer reserves the right to modify the competition schedule with notice.

Entry Requirements

Beer & Cider Bottles

  • All Beer & Cider entries must be in 10-16 oz. brown or green glass or unmarked can.

  • Raised NO DEPOSIT, or manufacturing codes are acceptable .

  • Common brand raised lettering (e.g. Sam Adams or Bass) are acceptable but should be avoided.

  • Beers must be capped with unmarked crown caps. (Silver & Gold) No logos, prints or bright colors.

  • You MUST redact any writing on all caps. Please black out the cap FULLY with black permanent marker or use rubbing alcohol to remove it.

  • 22 ounce bombers, 750 ml bottles, plastic bottles, bottles with color/logo crown caps or bottles with labeling other than the rubber band attached I.D. Tag will NOT be accepted.

  • Bottles that do not meet the outlined requirements above will be disqualified.

Mead Bottles

  • Meads may be entered in 187ml – 375ml OR 6 - 12oz clear, brown, green or clear glass.

  • Raised NO DEPOSIT, or manufacturing codes are acceptable .

  • Common brand raised lettering (e.g. Sam Adams or Bass) are acceptable but should be avoided.

  • Capped with unmarked crown caps. (Silver & Gold) No logos, prints or bright colors.

  • Corks are acceptable but they should be generic, not branded and preferably 100% blank.

  • You MUST redact any writing on all caps. Please black out the cap FULLY with black permanent marker or use rubbing alcohol to remove it.

  • 22 ounce bombers, 750 ml bottles, plastic bottles, bottles with color/logo crown caps or bottles with labeling other than the rubber band attached I.D. Tag will NOT be accepted.

  • Bottles that do not meet the outlined requirements above will be disqualified.

All submitted bottles become the property of Best Florida Beer.

No entries or bottles will be returned.

 

Awards and Prizes

We will once again be awarding fabulous prizes for each award winning beer.

  • We will continue our tradition of awarding high quality custom acrylic trophies for Beer BOS 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Cider BOS 1st, and Florida Homebrewer of the Year.

We will award prizes unique sponsored prizes to each category for first place and will have fabulous prizes for every award winning homebrew!  (You must attend the ceremony to claim any prizes.)

Medals will only be awarded to what the judging panel for that category deem medal-worthy beers. 

First place winners of each category will advance to the Best of Show Round.
